About the Project

About "The Calgary Project - A City Map in Verse and Visual"

What if we asked poets and artists to map our city?

The RE:act Art & Community Together Collective intends to publish a gorgeous anthology of poetry and visual art inspired by the city of Calgary, and created by Calgarian writers and artists.

We shall showcase the rich diversity of culture that thrives in our city.

The anthology will harness the energy of our city - the "can do" spirit that shone so passionately during the flood. This energy built our city - in industry and in the arts.

Who better to tell these stories than our artists?

We shall dedicate a special section to work inspired by the flood and recovery effort. And we shall also include contributions by young writers and artists - the voices of our future.

Throughout 2013, submissions to "The CALGARY PROJECT – A City Map in Verse & Visual" will first be published on-line at www.blueskiespoetry.ca

We've already generated an amazing buzz of interest through Blues Skies and through our RE:act events.

The print anthology will be launched in March 2014, and also during National Poetry Month in April 2014, and marketed in association with Frontenac House.

Additionally we shall create a dynamic website dedicated to our youth, featuring poetry and art by, and for, youth (18 and under), as part of our ongoing efforts to engage our young people, and as a local, accessible tool for our youth literacy work. The dedicated website will be available for use in Calgary schools, and in literacy programs.

Why We Need Your Support

A full colour anthology of this quality, that does justice to the fine work of over 80 poets and artists, is an ambitious and expensive project!

To turn a great idea into a beautiful book there's the production costs: design, printing, and distribution. That's why we need your generous support!

The more we can print - the more copies we can donate to youth literacy programs and to Calgary high schools.

We're art-trepreneurs. Our previous anthologies were published on our savings alone. Both were bestsellers - which is pretty amazing for poetry! We have the savvy to make this project successful!

Our goal is to raise $10000, through Invest YYC, and also by pre-selling the anthology to corporate sponsors. Thanks to the support of Frontenac House the minimum amount we need to raise to make our project a reality is $1000.

If our fundraising exceeds our target, we shall donate any funds over and above the production costs back to our contributors, and also to the youth literacy projects we support.

We are also pre-selling the anthology to corporate sponsors and investors at extremely significant discounts.

The anthology will be the most compelling "swag" you'll ever give to your clients! And the finest offering to international visitors, family, and friends! Invest in some copies now - we can personalize them to your business needs.
